MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Marines released on Monday the names of the 15 officers and enlisted men who were killed in an encounter with Abu Sayyaf fighters in Basilan on Saturday.

Marine spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Caculitan named them as Second Lieutenants Ludwig Salvador, Jifrey Leoveras, Eugene Machiste Piñera, Ermin Soloren, Roldan Samera, Privates First Class Manuel Tayaban Jr., Michael Aoigan, Julius Jove, Ursulo Torres Jr., Peary Simeros, Eril Labares, Roldan Baroy, Danilo Vergara, Renaldo Pedroso, and Private Virgilo Domingo.

Except for Pedroso and Samera, all the slain soldiers will be flown to Manila early Monday evening where they will be given full military honors at Villamor Airbase.

Also due for military honors is Second Lieutenant Claudio Odaondo, the Air Force pilot who died when his attack helicopter crashed after providing air support to the embattled Marines in Basilan.

The remains of the 13 Marines and Odaondo are being ferried from Zamboanga City to Manila on a C-130 cargo plane.
