MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang has adopted a hands-off policy on the decision of the Supreme Court to dismiss an associate justice of the Court of Appeals and penalize four others following an investigation into bribery allegations at the appellate court.

“Although the issue has implications on orderly administration of justice that should concern all, the matter pertaining to the pursuit of an investigation of CA justices and its consequent results are matters that should be left entirely to the judiciary to handle and determine,” Press Secretary Jesus Dureza said Tuesday.

The high court dismissed Associate Justice Vicente Roxas, suspended for two months Justice Jose Sabio, reprimanded Presiding Justice Conrado Vazquez and Justice Bienvenido Reyes, and admonished Justice Myrna Dimaranan-Vidal for their roles in the case involving the dispute between the Manila Electric Co. and the Government Service Insurance System.

The high tribunal ruling came after a three-man panel it created cited in its report “lapses” committed by these five justices in handling the case.
