Palace dares sacked justice to go to court over allegations
MANILA, Philippines — Dismissed Court of Appeals Associate Jutsice Vicente Roxas should name those involved in the bribery scandal in the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) case and charge them before the courts, and not to wait until after President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo steps down in 2010, one of her spokesmen said.
At the same time, Deputy Presidential Spokesman Anthony Golez rejected Roxas’ claim that his dismissal was the result of “political bullying.”
“Charge them before the courts. If he thinks he’s innocent charge everybody before the courts,” Golez said in an interview with reporters at the Palace Friday.
“We respect his opinion but we have to ask him this question. Who gave the ruling? The Supreme Court, so why will he blame the politicians, is he insinutating that the supreme court, or the court is being influenced by the politicians?” Golez said.
In an interview on ANC television on Tuesday, Roxas said he would reveal what he knew of the bribery attempt only after Arroyo’s term has ended in 2010, as he decried his being a victim of “political bullying.”
The high tribunal dismissed Roxas for “dishonesty” in handling the Meralco case.
