STA. ROSA, Laguna — Malacañang has shrugged off the formal endorsement of former Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. of the latest impeachment complaint against President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

De Venecia  endorsed the complaint, whose proponents include his son, Jose de Venecia III, at the Philippine Consulate in San Francisco.

“We heard about his formal endorsement in the San Francisco consulate but since the case now is with the House of Representatives, then, we would leave this to the House in accordance with the present rules to act on this and probably resolve on this impeachment complaint,” Press Secretary Jesus Dureza said here.

De Venecia had a falling out with Arroyo, his former ally, after his son linked First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo to the alleged overprice of the $329-million national broadband network project.

When De Venecia was Speaker, past impeachment complaints against the President, which stemmed from allegations of corruption and election fraud, had been dismissed.
