MANILA, Philippines — President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has no plans of meeting American president-elect Barack Obama when she visits the United States next week, Malacañang said Friday.

“There is no scheduled meeting or intention of a meeting…It’s something desirable but its not there,” Press Secretary Jesus Dureza told a news conference.

Dureza noted that Obama will not be president until his inauguration on January 20, 2009.

Arroyo left Obama a phone message Wednesday following his historic win to become America’s first black president. Obama has not returned the gesture.

“Hindi na dapat natin muna tutukan yun; ang pagtawag, personal yun e. [We should not dwell on that; the call was a personal thing],” Dureza said, when asked if Arroyo felt slighted by the apparent snub.

On Friday, a spokesperson for Obama’s transition team said he has returned the calls of 10 world leaders. Arroyo was not among them.

Arroyo is scheduled to attend an interfaith-dialogue at the United Nations in New York on November 12.

She is scheduled to leave the country on the evening of November 10, Monday, Dureza said.

Before the UN event, Arroyo will meet with the Filipino community in Chicago, Illinois, where Obama is senator, Dureza said.

“She will fly back immediately. She will have more time flying in the air than being on the ground. These are obligatory trips she has to make because of international commitments,” he said.
