MANILA, Philippines — Thai Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat arrived in Malacañang early Monday evening for an expanded bilateral meeting with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Somchai was accorded full military honors at the Palace grounds, where he was welcomed by the Arroyo and several Cabinet, military, and
police officials.

In Thai characters, Somchai wrote on the Palace guest book: “Thank you for the warm welcome and friendship.”

Arroyo then led Somchai to the state dining room for an expanded
bilateral meeting and dinner.

Earlier in the day, Press Secretary Jesus Dureza said Arroyo and Somchai were expected to discuss the global financial crisis, and the planned expansion of the $80-billion Chiang Mai initiative, a multilateral swap facility, to cushion the impact of the crisis on the region.
