Arroyo fails to meet Obama
MANILA, Philippines — President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo failed to meet United States President Barack Obama when both leaders attended the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington D.C. on Thursday (late evening in Manila), her spokesperson said.
“There was no meeting. It was not on the agenda since it was a religious event,” deputy presidential spokesperson Lorelei Fajardo told INQUIRER.net in a phone interview from Washington on Friday morning.
Obama left soon after his speech at the annual event because he had to rush to another engagement, Fajardo said.
“The President will meet with Senators to push for the Veterans’ Bill and with potential investors,” she said.
A meeting with the Filipino community in Washington was not on Arroyo’s schedule, the spokesperson said.
The President and her party are expected back in Manila at 5 a.m. Sunday, she said.
Before the US trip, Arroyo was in Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum, then proceeded to Milan, Italy; Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; and Manama, Bahrain to check on Filipino workers.
