DoE chief: LPG supply ‘normalized’
MANILA, Philippines — Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes claimed on Monday that the supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), which was allegedly affected by hoarders, has “normalized.”
Reyes said President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo had ordered him to “run after people destroying the industry.”
“We issue a warning to all in the LPG industry. We will go hard on those who are hoarding, illegal refilling, and using dilapidated and un-maintained [gas] cylinders,” Reyes told a news conference at the Palace during a break from the weekly Cabinet meeting.
“We know more or less who they are. They know who they are,” he said, referring to alleged hoarders.
With the supply “normalized,” Reyes said LPG should cost between P500 to P550 per cylinder.
Reyes said the LPG supply problem was due to a “confluence of events” in the supply chain.
“Hindi totoo na ako magnet ng disaster [It’s not true that I’m a disaster magnet]…Disasters due to force majeure [natural forces] are blamed on me,” he said.
