Reyes fails ‘intelligence’ check–Palace
MANILA, Philippines – Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes has failed President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s “intelligence” check on his claim that the supply of cooking gas has “normalized,” a Malacañang official said Wednesday.
After Reyes’ report on the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) situation during a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, the President called an asset – a friend who runs a “carinderia” or eatery, who told her that it was still difficult to buy LPG, Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said.
“The President has her own intelligence. When she was informed by Secretary Reyes, she called a friend who owns a carinderia,” Remonde told radio station dzXL.
“That is why she ordered Secretary Reyes to do everything and asked the secretaries of the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Interior and Local Government to help give the DoE [Department of Energy] law enforcement teeth,” he said.
Asked if Reyes’ inaccurate pronouncement to the President could be the basis for his removal from office, Remonde said: “We leave that entirely to the President. Baka dinedeposito lang muna [Maybe it’s being deposited].”
