Palace bares P7-B job program
Agencies told to give fraction of expenses
MANILA, Philippines — President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has issued an executive order ordering all government agencies to set aside 1.5 percent of their budget for maintenance and other operating expenses to fund a P7-billion job program, a Malacañang official said.
The P7-billion fund will be used to employ 180,000 people on a contractual basis for six months, and will be good until July this year, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said.
Ermita could not immediately provide additional details of the order, which he said was signed after Arroyo hosted a jobs summit at the Palace last Monday.
During the summit, Arroyo announced that the government would spend P2 billion for “green collar” jobs and another P500 million to deploy out-of-work nurses to poor communities as “warriors of wellness.”
