SAN JUAN, Batangas—The Palace backed a police investigation on former president Joseph Estrada and Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay over a machine gun replica, saying the two were not above the law.
Estrada and Binay are being investigated for violation of a Martial Law era presidential decree that bans the gun replicas, after they were photographed in Carmen town, Cebu province on board a military jeep fitted with a 50-caliber machine gun replica.
“What made them think [that] they are above the law because they are opposition leaders?” Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said.
“The PNP is investigating this, they are doing their jobs. They [Estrada and Binay] should explain their actions instead of crying political harassment,” he said.
Remonde told state-run radio station dzRB that Estrada and Binay “should be responsible for their actions.”
